THE LES RIVER FELLOWSHIP

The Les River Fellowship for Young Novelists was established by Dorothy River in 2016 in honor and memory of her husband W. Leslie River, PhB’25. One Les River Fellowship  of $5,000 will be awarded annually to a writer of fiction completing a BA project in Creative Writing, to support the development of a work of fiction towards publication. NEW VOICES SERIES

Each academic year, the New Voices series brings in three writers who have one or two books out in the genres of fiction, poetry, and nonfiction. Prior to the public reading, we invite University of Chicago students to submit an anonymous sample in the relevant genre, which is then passed on to the visiting writer. The New Voices writer chooses a student writer to open the public reading from among these samples. All UChicago students are eligible to submit work for this opportunity.

THE RON OFFEN POETRY PRIZE

Established in memory of poet and editor Ron Offen, the Ron Offen Poetry Prize brings one Chicago poet to campus each year for a public reading. The prize also accommodates one student reader, to be chosen by the visiting poet from anonymous submissions. All UChicago students are eligible for the student prize.
